Guernica is illuminated with the most innovative and sustainable technology.

The collaboration agreement signed by the EDP Foundation and the Reina Sofia Museum has made it possible to install the most advanced museum lighting technology in room 206 on the second floor, where Pablo Picasso's Guernica (1937) and its context are exhibited, a space covering around 1,500 m2.

The public that now comes to contemplate this work and those that surround it can enjoy indirect lighting, specially designed for this environment, which emphasizes the vaults of the Sabatini building, a jewel of eighteenth-century architecture, enhancing the value of the Reina Sofia's architectural heritage.

The collaboration with the EDP Foundation is not new, as it already allowed in 2019 to change the lighting inside the Crystal Palace of El Retiro Park. These initiatives are part of the process that the Museum is undertaking to adapt to the new needs and demands of the public in terms of the physical experience of their visit, especially at a time when it is addressing a complete rearrangement of the Collection that will culminate next November when it will be presented.

The replacement of the previous conventional lighting in these spaces responds to the commitment of the Reina Sofia Museum and EDP to the environment, not only in terms of preserving heritage, but also to raise awareness and disseminate sustainable habits. This measure is in addition to others already adopted to promote energy efficiency, reducing consumption, harmonizing energy expenditure, and respecting the environment, always with the ultimate goal of implementing sustainability and achieving the goals of the 2030 Agenda.
