Alfredo Sosabravo (Villa Clara, 1930), painter, draftsman, engraver and ceramist, considered one of the most important Cuban artists in the visual arts in Cuba. National Prize of Plastic Arts in 1997.
The history of Cuban plastic arts in the 20th century cannot be built without the discourse of Alfredo Sosabravo, without his mastery and genius to enchant from the first moment. After several attempts as a short story writer, published on some occasions, passing through the Amadeo Roldán Music Conservatory, destiny up to that moment with imprecise plays, changed the threads of his life, when he met in the 50's, the work of another great of his native land, Wifredo Lam.
From then on, Sosabravo would become the man who gave us flashes of joy, colors and perfect figures with great exquisiteness and impressive originality.
If we made a study of the great works in the Island, in the matter of plastic arts -and the way is very leafy in that sense- none resembles the art of Sosabravo, because he is unique in his class. His sources of inspiration are flora and the animal kingdom. It is a constant ode to beauty, through two-dimensional expressions that leave the spectator stunned and move emotions towards the illusory reality projected by his paintings.
On how the master achieves it, it will be necessary to carry out a deep investigation. If you think of Sosabravo, there is nothing more like a child who always seeks to make the rest happy.
Alfredo Sosabravo's phrase: "Nobody gets the style of the sky, you have to experiment and evolve. It is a process of continuous search in which the artist can observe and analyze its consolidation".
